Pain Management: Analgesics
Course Description:
There are a variety of analgesics available to support pain management in aged care. This course presents the different types of analgesics and how to optimise and evaluate their effectiveness.
It also looks at what pain is and how it is classified. It discusses the elements of an effective pain assessment and uses a case study to apply the principles of pain management to the residential care setting.
This course also includes a downloadable learning guide that contains key definitions and additional information about analgesics. You can use this to support your learning as you view the videos.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Define pain and pain management and identify different classifications of pain
- Recognise how to assess pain
- Identify the different types of analgesics and recognise how to use them effectively to treat pain
- Describe how to evaluate and modify the effectiveness of analgesic therapy
