This short online module introduces aged care workers to the concept of whistleblowing within the aged care sector, in line with the new Aged Care Act in Australia. It explains the importance of raising concerns, outlines the protections available to whistleblowers, and guides workers on how to report wrongdoing safely and appropriately. The course highlights how a transparent, accountable culture contributes to safer, higher-quality care for older people.

Course Aim:

To build awareness and confidence among aged care workers in recognising, reporting, and responding to concerns about wrongdoing or poor care practices, while understanding the legal protections provided to whistleblowers under the new Aged Care Act.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants should be able to:

  • Define whistleblowing and explain its role in promoting safety and accountability in aged care.
  • Outline the protections for whistleblowers under the new Aged Care Act, including what types of disclosures are protected.
  • Identify examples of reportable conduct or concerns that should be raised.
