Dysphagia: Awareness and Support of Swallowing Difficulties
Course Description:
In this course you will learn how dysphagia may affect a person and explore appropriate care strategies. Includes information on the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI).
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Define the term dysphagia and how to recognise signs and symptoms
- Describe complications that can occur due to dysphagia
- Discuss how to assess for swallowing difficulties
- Describe how to support a person with dysphagia during eating and drinking
Who is this course appropriate for:
This course is appropriate for RNs, ENs and support staff. It is also appropriate for carers supporting a person with dysphagia in the home.
Continuing Professional Development Hours:
Up to 8 hours can be earned completing this course.
